If you did not get your system winterized this fall, here are a couple of tips:

1st step to help prevent freeze damage to your backflow device is to
shut the sprinkler water off in the basement. Here’s how: |

2nd step is to drain the water out of the device by turning all of the valves to a 45 degree angle using a flat-blade screwdriver.
It will spray a bit of water, so don't stand above/in front of the small valves.
**If you don't know where the device is, you can try going to your controller and running a zone for a minute to relieve the pressure on the device so that it may drain. (This works only after Step 1 is completed.)
